Psychiatry with the patience to understand you
Most psychiatric care starts with a checklist and ends with a prescription, in under twenty minutes. Seven Rivers Psychiatry starts with your whole story. Many streams of information, one clear formulation, and a plan you actually understand.
Board-certified psychiatrist · Video visits for adults anywhere in Connecticut · Free 15-minute consultation for every new patient · Superbills for out-of-network reimbursement
A different kind of evaluation
Diagnosis is a beginning, not a label
The name Seven Rivers refers to how this practice thinks: several independent streams of understanding, brought together into one river of care.
Time
Your evaluation is two full 60-minute sessions on separate days, and follow-ups are never rushed. Careful psychiatry cannot be done in rushed slots, so this practice does not offer them.
Depth
You are assessed through multiple clinical lenses: biological, psychological, developmental, relational, and lifestyle. Symptoms make sense in context, and the context is where treatment gets traction.
Continuity
You see the same psychiatrist every visit. Your history is not re-explained to a rotating cast. Small panel, direct communication, decisions made with you rather than about you.
Getting started
From first click to first plan
Free 15-minute consultation
Every new patient starts with a free video consultation. You check the fit; we confirm this is the right level of care. No charge, no obligation.
Complete intake
Before your evaluation, you fill out a structured intake so session time is spent on understanding, not paperwork.
A two-session evaluation
Two full 60-minute sessions on separate days, covering your history, current life, prior treatment, and goals. The time between sessions is part of the method.
A plan in plain language
You leave with a working formulation and a treatment plan you understand, including what we will try, why, and how we will know it is working.
Is this practice right for you?
A good fit matters more than a fast start
Likely a strong fit
Adults in Connecticut seeking evaluation or medication management for anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, bipolar spectrum conditions, or insomnia. People who want a doctor who explains reasoning, prescribes conservatively, and treats deprescribing as seriously as prescribing.
Better served elsewhere
This is an outpatient telehealth practice. It is not equipped for psychiatric emergencies, active suicidal crisis, conditions requiring frequent in-person monitoring, or court-ordered evaluations. If that describes your situation, the contact page lists appropriate resources.
Two currents
Healing and Ascent
Every domain of a life has a down-going and an up-going current. Care here runs in both: resolving what hurts, and building what carries you. You choose where to start, and the current can change at any visit.
The healing current
Turn toward what hurts
Resolution of fear, grief, and shame. Classic psychiatric treatment, somatic work, and supportive therapy.
The ascent current
Build what carries you
Capability, drive, voice, and purpose. Psychodynamic depth work, resilience building, and performance-minded care.
